filipino and proud (! or ?) [22 Feb 2007|10:46pm] [ mood | idealistic ] "You should start thinking about who to vote," my mom reminded me last week. Oh right, I'm a registered voter already! On May 14, 2007 I'm gonna have an inky thumb! I have to start reading up on the candidates because honestly, I have no idea who's running except for the celebrities/politician-wannabes and Manny Pacquiao. What is happening to my country? The elections is becoming a joke. Here's what I grew up believing: there is a difference between a politician and a public servant. A politician's main concern is getting into power and more power. I think it was Uli who said that the Senate was just 24 people waiting to be president. A public servant puts his people's interest first. No corrupting, no empty promises. Just service. If I were to become an adviser to someone powerful, I'd suggest a few things. ( Off the top of my head. ) I know I'm being idealistic. But I do believe those things can be done. Maybe not next year or the year after that, but it CAN be done. Singapore fixed themselves up in like, 7 years? We can do it too. It's not a matter of money. The Philippines has a lot of money that goes to highways or luxury cars or mistresses. It's a matter of priority. And just to continue my political thoughts! I don't think the Philippines is ready for democracy. I think it needs to be whipped to shape first. But for the dictatorship structure to work, we need a brilliant leader who will make us understand WHY we need it. And it ain't gonna be Bong Revilla or Lito Lapid or Richard Gomez. Who? I don't know. piccio for President in 25 years. By writing this entry I'm sure to get a lot of comments, violent reactions, whatever. Go for it.
